The Comedy Tree was opened in 2002 by comics Pete Jonas (left) and Erich McElroy (right). While the actual details are forever blurred by alcohol, their dream was to start a comedy night that wasn't as shit as the clubs they were playing at the time.
Combining Pete's evil corporate marketing skills and Erich's ability to smile and nod, the two approached management at the Litten Tree Putney and told them a massive pack of lies. The landlord bought it and new chapter in London's comedy scene was born.
The Comedy Tree is now one of London's most popular comedy clubs, renowned for it's high quality shows and a fun, intimate atmosphere. Some of the world's best comics have performed at the club, including Russell Brand, Flight of the Conchords, Stephen Merchant, Stewart Lee, Omid Djalili, Lee Mack, Tim Vine, Lucy Porter, Mark Watson, Rhod Gilbert and Dave Gorman.

In 2006, Pete and Erich performed a show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival about living here as foreigners called Brokeback Britain - They Moved to a Shithole. The show was a hit with audiences and critics alike and was sold out for the entire Edinburgh run. To this day, some people still aren't sure whether they are gay or not, despite Erich having two children and Pete being in therapy for chronic womanising.
Between 2003 and 2007, the two also wrote the once- popular, weekly spoof news bulletin, Comedy Tree News. They stopped writing it when email tracking technology revealed that hardly anyone was reading it.
Nowadays, Pete and Erich are still resident MCs of The Comedy Tree in addition to regularly performing at major comedy clubs (and some minor ones) throughout the UK and Europe.
